 Abstract:  This collection contains material documenting the De la Torre family and their involvement in the Cristero Movement. The family traveled from central Mexico to Nogales, Sonora bringing the Movement to northern Mexico. Items include biographical materials; correspondence; printed materials, including pamphlets, newsletters, newsclippings, and Public Statements; and photographs and negatives. The bulk of the material is printed materials and photographs. This collection also contains over 280 books that can be found in the University of Arizona Library catalog under the title Cristero Movement Collection. The majority of the material is in Spanish.  Abstract:  The Sanctuary Movement was a religious and political campaign that began in the early 1980s to provide safety for Central American refugees fleeing civil conflicts within their home countries. This collection contains materials related to the Sanctuary Movement and, more specifically, the highly publicized Sanctuary Trial that took place in Arizona. Within the collection are attorney files, certified trial transcripts, publicity materials, and trial notebooks. Also represented in the collection are donated materials from the American Friends Service Committee and the Southside Presbyterian Church, who were important players in the Sanctuary Movement. Materials from these organizations include correspondence, newspaper clippings, publications and trial materials.

 Abstract:  The Paul M. Roca Papers and Photographs contains materials which document Jesuit churches throughout the Northern Mexico states of Sonora and Chihuahua. The collection consists of two series, Photographs and Papers. The first series, Photographs (1887-1965, bulk 1955-1965) consists of 156 photographs featured in Paths of the Padres through Sonora: An Illustrated History & Guide to Its Spanish Churches published by the Arizona Pioneers’ Historical Society in 1967 with accompanying maps. The second series, Papers (1977), contains 4 manuscript versions of Spanish Jesuit Churches in Mexico’s Tarahumara published by the University of Arizona Press in 1979. A selection of Roca’s images have been posted on History Pin: Paul Roca Photographs of Missions in Sonora, Mexico.
